Here’s the truth about fats - which you should eat, which you should avoid…
Fats have been given a bad rep lately.
It is probably one of the most misunderstood nutrients.
Is fat EVIL?
Well, not all of them.
Let’s talk about it.
Fats that we can get from nature are not bad at all.
In fact, we need them.
Monounsaturated, saturated, and polyunsaturated (think omega-3 and omega-6), are all essential to our body functions.
The first two are critical to testosterone production.
Polyunsaturated fats support brain function and help thin the blood.
The only problem with polyunsaturated is that it oxidizes easily under heat, light, and oxygen exposure.
When oxidation happens you set yourself up for all sorts of free radical damage, wrinkles and plaque buildup in your arteries.
So… try not to roast your (pea)nuts.
The BAD fats are those that are chemically modified.
Think trans fats.
These fats deserve all the disparagement they’re getting and then some.
The standard western diet is rife with these… and are essentially chemically modified polyunsaturated fats to help them keep longer (trans fats don’t oxidize).
Found in highly processed foods such as commercial cakes, cookies, pies, frozen pizzas, fried foods, margarine…
Poisonous.
If you’ve ever wondered why Americans drop like flies from so much heart disease and stroke… this is one of the biggest reasons.
So keep these out of your diet and aim to consume more of the good ones!
Healthy fats can be found in:
Olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, ghee, butter, high quality lard and tallow, grass fed meats, organs, shellfish, and eggs.
